Long the handmaiden of West Seattle real estate, the market for Alki and Beach Drive condos is healthier than ever. Five years ago the median sales price was about $400,000 and there were plenty to choose from. Today the median is close to $600,000 and the pickings are very slim for buyers.

Holy Names Academy, Seattle, around sunset. The building was dedicated in 1908 after outgrowing buildings at Second and Seneca and Seventh and Jackson downtown.
Here’s a real Seattle Treasure, the old Broadway High School auditorium at Broadway and Pine. Built in 1902, it was the first building erected in Seattle to serve specifically as a high school. Today it serves as the Broadway Performance Hall.
Cranes seem to have dominated the Seattle skyline for five or six years now, giving the city an air of change and impermanence, not to mention a lingering sense of danger from above. Seen looking south from Mercer and Eastlake.
